Courage
Courage
This year at Tyabb, we have chosen the theme of Courage.
Nelson Mandela said that “courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” He goes on to say “I felt fear myself more times that I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of boldness. The brave man [woman] is not [s]he who does not feel afraid, but [s]he who conquers that fear”.
Most of us will never have to confront the challenges that Mandela faced in his lifetime. But there will be many times in our lives when we will have to be courageous. We will need courage to speak up for those who have no voice. We will need courage to stand up for the oppressed. We will need courage to overcome our fear of public speaking, or our fear of examinations or our fear of having a difficult conversation. We want to educate and raise young men and women who have the courage to live out our school values – love, faith, humility, perseverance, excellence, grace, and integrity. Our world desperately needs courageous men and women in leadership who dare to do what is right – moral courage.
Let us continue to encourage our young people to be courageous and celebrate the times when they triumph over their fears.
Psalm 31:14 Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!
