Music at Carrum Downs | Flinders Christian Community College

We have an excellent music program here at Flinders, through which many of our students discover an abiding love of music and talents that bring them lifelong joy.

Our Music Faculty offers a creative and exciting classroom music curriculum, as well as an extensive instrumental music and ensemble program, so your child will have every opportunity to develop their skills and explore their musical tastes.

We are extremely lucky to have many talented and highly qualified classroom and instrumental music teachers who tutor our students on a wide range of instruments.

Primary Music

Classroom music from Prep to Grade 6 is a flexible curriculum offering both Orf and Kodaly based methods.

Grades 3 to 5 offer a unique Strings programme that includes a weekly Orchestra session with our specialist staff. The programme introduces Cello, Violin and Viola, sight reading basic notation and performance as an Orchestra at a range of School Events. Students can choose to further develop their skills through optional Instrumental Music Lessons on Campus with the same specialist staff.

Grade 5 Concert Band introduces students to the worlds of brass and woodwind, further developing technical skills and performance techniques. A range of Instrumental Music lessons are also available for Band Instruments.

Grade 6 Choir is an opportunity for students to develop aural skills and work collaboratively with peers and teachers, exploring pitch, rhythm, dynamics and tempo using voice and movement.

The Secondary Music curriculum offers a range of musical experiences, including instrumental performance, creative composition, music literacy development, performance practices and a deeper understanding of theoretical concepts.
