There’s something about this place ...
‘There’s something about this place’, parents and visitors express as they walk around on tours or meet us on open days, and at interviews.
When we ask families, ‘Why choose Flinders?’ inevitably they talk about values that make this place unique. Growing research at Harvard’s Human Flourishing Project indicate that participation in religious communities, including Christian schools, positively impacts health, happiness, meaning, purpose, and social relationships.
Specifically, the program has highlighted that religious participation, such as regular attendance at religious services, is associated with better mental and physical health outcomes, reduced rates of depression, and lower mortality rates. This positive correlation is attributed to the supportive community environment, shared values, and increased opportunities for social engagement that religious settings often provide.
At Flinders, we know there is something about this place that makes it special and unique. But it’s more than the grounds, or the animals, even the incredible people: our ‘Flinders community’.
We know that behind, underneath, surrounding and throughout our school there is a Spirit of hope, faith, truth, and love, that animates everything that we do.
Without that, we are just another school on the Mornington Peninsula.
There is a lot to be grateful for this Term:
- Flinders is growing, and we are opening up classes in Kinder, Primary, Secondary and at the Joshua Centre
- We are investing back into building and ground works
- We are seeing growth in student learning, with Initial Literacy
- We are hearing stories of transformation in students, which we believe is because of our values and the spirit that animates.
