Pyjama drive for Backpack 4 Vic Kids.
On Thursday 28 March, the last day of term, we are supporting the Backpack 4 Vic Kids (B4VK) charity. B4VK is an Australian charity that provides essential aid to displaced children before any arrangements have been made to further support them. Pyjamas are one of the items that are in constant demand.
On this day, for a gold coin donation, students can come to school dressed in suitable pyjamas. If the students have a PE lesson on this day, please ensure that runners are worn.
The money will be used to purchase children’s sized pyjamas for the charity. Families that can, are also welcome to donate new/clean children-sized pyjamas to the school on behalf of their peers.
The Primary School will be celebrating World Maths Day on Monday the 25 March. The Prep – 2 students will enjoy the Maths Show Performance and Grade 3- 6 will participate in some Mathematical Escape Room escapades. The activities will be facilitated by an outside group. To add to the fun there is a Maths Day Photo Competition. Students are invited to email a mathematical photo (something they built, drew, discovered, formed or revealed) to gaye.franklin@flinders.vic.edu.au.
Please see the flyer for more information.
At the recent Little Athletics State Field and Track Championships, our grade 5 student Saige won a bronze medal in shotput with a huge personal best throw of 9.35m
Congratulations!
Twelve students from Grades 4-6 travelled to Belgrave Heights Christian School to compete in the CSEN Chess Competition on Wednesday 6 March. The standard was high and our Flinders students did us proud with their perseverance, strategic moves and steady hands to finish the competition in 4th position.
Joey W. in Grade 6 was equal first on the day – well done Joey! Our second-highest was Thumelo S, who finished 13th. The team also included Patrick D, Frederick D, Marley C, Will M, Charlotte C, Yvonne A, Viyan S, Archie P, Spencer L and Harvey B.
A great job by everyone to represent Flinders in this competition for the very first time. A big thank you to Mr. Edens for your coaching and team management and to Mrs. Thomas who was such a support to the students during the day.
During Week 6, two year 11 PE 1&2 classes experienced a study camp at Sandy Point, to investigate energy systems, the role of oxygen in the production of ATP and various biomechanical principles as they relate to a variety of physical activities including mini golf, surfing, and cycling.
The three day camp culminated in students participating in a triathlon.
We are currently taking expressions of interest for the Flinders Golf Academy in Term 2. Sessions will run on Tuesday afternoons at the Sandhurst Golf Club, from 4:30-6:00pm. If you would like more information or want to express your interest, please email andrew.bylart@flinders.vic.edu.au
What a pleasure it has been to coach the Flinders Basketball Development Squad for the past 4 weeks! Throughout these sessions, the students have worked tirelessly to improve their game. We focused on skills such as ball handling, the mechanics of shooting, passing and decision making. We also worked on some game play involving screens, dribble handoffs and cutting. Coaches Tim and Tori were particularly impressed by the attentive demeanor of the students and their relentless commitment to each and every drill, highlighting their exceptional work ethic and thirst for improvement. Well done on an incredible 4 weeks!
On Tuesday 12 March, our swim team headed off to the Pines Pool for an invaluable training session. Students were coached on how to complete a relay changeover and given important tips on how to prepare for their races. They also competed in some time trials in preparation for the upcoming SIS Relay Carnival as well as the SIS Division A Swimming Carnival early next term.
In Term 2 we will have the following sports:
Junior Boys Soccer
Junior Boys Volleyball
Junior Girls Netball
Inter Girls AFL
Senior Boys AFL
Senior Girls Volleyball
We will be running tryouts for these sports during the last week of Term 1 and the first week of Term 2.
Please see the tryout schedule below:
This weekend the Junior Triathlon team will compete in the 2XU Triathlon. We wish them all the best as they put all their training into practice!
Our SIS teams are performing well as we near the end of the Term 1 season. Our Senior Girls Basketball Team played an impressive game, winning 50-15. Our Junior Boys AFL 9’s team as well as our Inter Boys Handball tea remain undefeated, winning their games 88-29 and 25-15 respectively. Our Senior Boys Soccer team fought hard but unfortunately ended the match with a 2-5 loss. We wish all of our SIS teams the best of luck as they prepare for their final game for this term!
A core group of ballers who started their basketball journey in the Frankston Basketball competition back in U8 / U10 played their final U18 game as a group last week. Despite a few additional players passing through the team over the years, the core group (Mac, Liam, Ky & Keanu, and later Kris) have been playing for many years and strong bonds have been formed through this team under the coaching/management of volunteer parents James, Dallan Areti and Marissa. A wonderful journey the boys have had and we hope to see the core group back on court one day.
Due to an overwhelming sign up / expressions of interest to play winter season domestic competition with the Club, a number of skills assessment sessions have been held at Carrum Downs and Tyabb during lunchtime and after school. A HUGE thank you to our volunteer coaches (staff and parents) who jumped in to run these sessions and we hope all players had a fun time and even picked up a new skill or 2!

Our 2024 Sponsorship booklet is now available for interested business owners to review. We have a wide range of sponsorship opportunities available. Booklets containing further information can be obtained by emailing diane.ohare@flinders.vic.edu.au.
